The stress management and stress reduction classes available
at the Stress Management & Prevention Clinic can help almost anyone to understand
how our bodies, minds, and emotions are interlaced with physical difficulties,
emotional concerns, and mental problems. They are modeled on those practiced at the Center for
Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society, at the University of
Massachusetts Medical School.
The
primary aim of the classes is to show you how to control our innate instinct to
operate on autopilot so that you can begin to respond to the challenges in life
in a more appropriate and less stressful way.
The
practices you will find at the center
include: breathing exercises, meditation, body awareness, mindful
eating, empathy and compassion for others, and progressive muscle
relaxation.
CDs are available for purchase at the clinic for
those who want to practice some of these modalities at home or away from home.
